History of the Dance Program

The dance program began as a part of WISD community Education in the mid 1970’s Sandy Williams was the first community education coordinator. The classes met on Saturday morning, teaching tap and tumbling. Ballet, pointe and jazz classes came later. In the fall 1980 Mrs. Betty Stephens became coordinator . The first formal recital was held at Hartman in 1981. Upon Mrs. Stephens’ retirement in 2000, Mrs. Marcia Coker took responsibility for the program. Mrs Coker ran the program until 2005. At this point, the program became a booster club within WISD. The Ambassadors of Dance is a WISD sponsored booster that relies solely on volunteers to manage the day to day functioning and operations of the program. The program is defined as having an executive board, which consists of one director and four officers. They are a follows (Click on highlighted names for a biography):

The intent of the program is to continue to provide the finest dance instruction to our students.
